DIPLOMA IN HOSPITAL ADMINISTRATION (DHA) PROGRAMME

The Diploma in Hospital Administration (DHA) programme is offered by the IIHS. The Institute also is in the process of organizing two, full-time, masters’ degree programmes, in health administration and hospital administration. The School also organizes several short-term training programmes in primary health care management and health care management.

The IIHS aims to prepare a cadre of competent, skilled and motivated professionals to take on managerial roles in the health and hospital administration field; carry out high quality social research and need-based intervention to contribute to knowledge production and evidence-based health policy and programme planning; do capacity-building; document and disseminate knowledge for wider use; and be in the forefront of health-related work in the country and beyond.

ELIGIBILITY

1. A Bachelor’s Degree of study or any other fulfilling the mandatory requirements of 15 years of formal education, either in medicine or nursing or paramedical faculty, with a minimum of 3 years work experience in a health care institution.
   OR
2. Bachelor’s Degree in any other faculty course of study or any other mandatory requirements of 15 years formal education with 45% of mark and with a minimum of 5 years work experience in a health care institution.

The DHA programme fulfils specific needs of hospitals. The syllabus and course content take into consideration the existing background of available personnel, as well as the future needs of hospitals. This comprehensive programme will provide a professional qualification to those who wish to take up hospital administration as a career. It will be of immediate benefit to those currently engaged in hospital administration at senior and middle levels for Doctors, Nurses and Paramedics and Non-medical personnel who are directly or indirectly involved in Hospital services.

ABOUT INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE OF HEALTH SCIENCES

The International Institute of Health Sciences (IIHS) was established in 2002, as the American College of Health Sciences as the first International Nurses training school in Sri Lanka. The IIHS was supported by Pacific Union College, California, in the curriculum formation and the supplying of educational material and equipments. In the year 2003, an important landmark in the history of the Institute, when its curriculum of Nurses training was recognized by the Ministry of Health as since then, the IIHS has been expanding continuously in terms of educational programmes and infrastructure. While responding to the changing needs of the social and educational system in the country, the Institute has gone far beyond the initial concern of Nursing work education. Thus, it started out as a small institution offering post-graduate diplomas in Hospital Health Management, Health Management, Disaster Management and Health Information Systems. Further, it will also be focusing on the certificate programmes in para-medical programmes such as Physiotherapy, Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory Technology, and Optometry.

Since its inception, the IIHS has never limited itself to the mandate of a conventional Education Institute; rather, it has worked for the promotion of not only education but developing professionals with caring hands;

Over the years, the Institute has made a significant contribution to society by training over 200 nursing students and 30% of the students are working abroad in Australia, Malaysia and USA. Today, the IIHS has earned recognition as an institution of repute from, various State Governments, international agencies and the non-government sector, both national and international. This is due to positive work ethics and creativity in the Institute, strong linkages among education, research, field action and dissemination, and social commitment and responsiveness to varying social needs.

FACULTY OF HEALTH MANAGEMENT STUDIES

The Faculty of Health Management Studies (FHMS) was established on January 2008. The School undertakes training, research, field action, and consultancy in the field of health services studies.
